Is simple, 90 sucks, too many problems everywhere, 91 got a little better (including brand new trannies), 92 got even better as they had less problems, 93 has almost no problems, and 94 and 95 were the very best ones, then in 96 Nissan did a big screw up with the drop on power and new exhaust system making the car almost impossible to upgrade to any stage, but the car itself is very very good too. Now, in 2001, after 12 years the first Z32 came out, I would go and buy a 90 or 91 as they are cheap, rebuild the engine (and turbos), tranny, suspension and brakes, and of course do whatever upgrade I can do or want to do. The result is a very good car, with lots of power, and very reliable for the next couple of years. Go to the FAQ link, under Misc, click on "What are the differences between model years?" link, it will tell you in general what are the differences and the upgrades done by Nissan.
